Writing this post seems absolutely crazy because it feels like I just wrote the last one. Aaaahhh!!! One month went by so quickly!
Eating: Still only mama’s milk. We’re going to introduce solids soon though, which is super exciting!
Sleeping: This month has truly been a journey…for all of us. After several weeks of struggle (for H) and stress (for us), we’ve finally found a rhythm with napping where usually H goes down fairly easily. She takes three solid naps per day – one to two hours each, and at night, she oscillates between waking up one to three times. While I wish she would find greater consistency there, I try to remind myself of how young she is, how much progress she’s already made, and that in the grand scheme of things, she’s a good sleeper! I’m definitely grateful.
Doing: Tyler commented the other day that, for a while, it had felt as if H had stopped doing anything new. But, within the last week or two we’ve both noticed some definite changes. It’s not that she’s accomplished tons of new milestones or anything, but all of the things she used to do, she is just SO MUCH BETTER at. She’s better at sitting up; she looks at everything much more carefully; she identifies sounds more easily, etc.
That said, one completely new behavior she has picked up is grabbing our faces. Anytime we get close enough, her little hand leaps out to grab our necks, lips, or hair. As a result, she’s also learning what “Oooow!” means; her hands are like little pinchers!
Salient Milestones: She now realizes that the lower half of her body exists! It feels hilarious to write and it is equally hilarious to watch how fascinated she is by her diaper and legs. She even grabbed her feet for the first time, although this has not become habit yet. The second, and more exciting, milestone for us, is that H recognizes there is a world behind her now. I realized she figured this out when she was sitting in my lap one day and very deliberately turned her head back around to “talk” to me. She does it now all of the time, and it is so cool.
Likes: “Wheels on the Bus” and diaper time are still favorites. I may be hallucinating, but I think she actually recognizes the song after the first few notes b/c she smiles every time. Also, diaper time has become extra fun (I don’t know why it was to begin with) because she’s started looking at herself in the mirror; she finds herself hilarious, just like her mama. Hah! In addition, she loves bath time now and “flying”, whether it be on the my legs or in daddy’s lap on the hammock.
Dislikes: I hope I don’t jinx myself, but these days, she’s been a pretty happy baby. She’s even putting up with reading now; thank goodness!
Our Favorite Moments: I love any opportunity I get to put H in her carrier. As soon as she gets in, she goes completely silent and starts swiveling her head back and forth, intently gazing at the scene around her. The other day we went to the grocery store and she could not have been more enthralled with the displays/shelves. I know it sounds cliche, but it really is so cool to “see” the world through her eyes. Tyler still most enjoys his time with H out on our hammock; it is the site of many a father-daughter giggle session.
