In my very first blog post, I wrote about how I’ve fallen in love with Boot Camp. Almost two and a half months later, I’m still loving it. Not only do I have some abs now, but I’m definitely on my way to completing a real push-up! Scary, but true.
In the last couple weeks, however, I was beginning to realize that Boot Camp wasn’t necessarily enough. While I’ve signed up for 8 sessions/month, there are some weeks when I can only attend one session. During these weeks, I definitely don’t want to fall behind on my training. I’ve also embraced the reality that working out more than 2x/week will help me to achieve my fitness goals more quickly.
As luck would have it, our friend, Elana (maker of the delicious Pondue) suggested Nike Training Club – a fitness app that she had on her phone. Now, as you may or may not have heard, I do not own a smart phone. In fact, I gave mine up after owning it for six weeks. (GO BASIC PHONES!) Fortunately, I do have an iPad, which I fervently hoped would download the app for me.
Since then, I have used Nike Training Club three times, and I plan on using it many more. The workouts are structured similarly to boot camp – various exercises done for a minute or two each before moving on to something new. You can use weights or medicine balls with the exercises, but it’s completely unnecessary, especially if you are just beginning a workout routine. You can also choose from the following workout categories:
Within each of the top three categories, there are three levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Then, within each of those categories there are about 8 workouts, some 30 minute programs and others 45s. Every workout comes with instructional videos for each of the moves listed. For example, if you’re unfamiliar with what “dips with legs straight” are, you can watch the video or read the instructional directions before completing your workout.
Yesterday, I did the “Ab Burner” on my bedroom floor, pumping Pandora tunes at the same time. The workout definitely lived up to its name, and the “Fighter Fit” – a 30 minute beginner’s workout under “Get Lean” – is on the docket for Friday. Wish me luck!
P.S. Did I mention the app is FREE?!
P.P.S. This post is not sponsored by Nike. I simply like their product and wanted to share. =)
