Jessica and I are hiking the John Muir Trail which we will follow for 238.8 miles through 6 federally protected areas including Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks. Before the trip we prepared a quick summary of our plans for each day. That way
our parents curious folks can follow along. Use this link to see all of the posts. Today is day 2 of our hike.
Start: Pohono Trail Near McGurk Meadows Junction
Camp: Little Yosemite Valley
Today’s Stats: 13.95 mi / +3207′ / -3989′
Total Stats: 21.96 mi / +7157′ / -5107′
Today is a LONG day of hiking! Lots of down and uphill. In the morning we will continue to make our way north along the east rim of Yosemite Valley culminating in some epic views of Half Dome from Glacier Point (see above photo). From there we descend into the valley behind me and meet up with the actual John Muir Trail a few miles after it leaves Happy Isles.
Once on the JMT we will pass some of the most epic waterfalls on Earth as we climb up to Little Yosemite Valley nestled behind half dome. Depending on how spry we feel, we can climb an extra few hundreds of feet to a different campsite for some privacy and to shorten tomorrow mornings’ climb.
