As I’ve noted before, California has many farmer’s markets. While Tyler and I have been trying to visit different ones, we primarily visit our town’s weekly Sunday market. We try to meal plan ahead of time, which can be difficult, but has been made MUCH easier through the help of: smittenkitchen.com
The website has an “In Season” page that lists produce that’s…in season! Each item is linked to a series of recipes in which it is featured. I’m not sure why I hadn’t discovered it before; our friend, Danny, introduced us to Smitten Kitchen a couple of years ago, but it’s made the entire planning, shopping, and cooking process so much more enjoyable.
Although I realize the summer season is pretty much over (although that’s hard to believe in California), I thought I’d share some of the recipes we’ve made recently and others I’m hoping to try soon.
Recently Made (+ Enjoyed)
- Sesame Meatballs with Smashed Chickpeas*
- Burrata with Lentils and Basil Vinegrette
- Burst Tomato Galette with Corn and Zucchini
- Leek, Chard, and Corn Flatbread*
- Herbed Summer Squash Pasta Bake
- Chard and White Bean Stew
*Our faves. =)
Looking Forward To…
- Punjabi Style Black Lentils
- Tomato Glazed Meatballs with Brown Butter Mashed Potatoes
- Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake
The title “Recently Made (+ Enjoyed)” is a little deceiving because I’m pretty sure I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve ever tried from her site; it’s simply been a matter of just enjoying something versus really enjoying it! Basically, you can’t go wrong!
Finally, I also thought I’d mention that we’ve pre-ordered Deb’s second cookbook, smitten kitchen every day: triumphant and unfussy new favorites, which is due out in October. I’m counting down the days until its arrival!
