Now, seeing as how this is my first post, I do not want to give you all the wrong impression about me. I am not one who is enthusiastic about exercise. If you’re looking for someone who gets excited about sweating or loves learning the appropriate form for swinging a kettle-bell, I am not your woman. You should check out my sister’s blog instead.
That being said, I am cognizant of the fact that in order to be healthy, exercise is a necessary evil. Unfortunately, I have always had trouble sticking to a consistent workout routine. Looking back, it seems as though I go hard for 6 months and then don’t do anything for another 6 months…or year. This roller-coaster ride really hasn’t done much for me.
This past summer, in the middle of one of my “sloth periods”, I happened upon a GroupOn for one month of boot camp classes in my area. I had never done boot camp before, but the price was right and I figured, “Why not?”
As luck would have it, I fell in love with boot camp.
Classes typically involve a circuit of four stations. At each station, you complete six exercises, each for one minute long. You get thirty seconds rest between each station. Of course, there’s a warm-up before and cool-down stretch after, which results in about forty minutes of exercise.
While at class, the great thing is I barely realize that time is going by. The one minute intervals are perfect – not too long that I get bored, but not so short that I’m not getting my sweat on. And because I’m constantly moving, I never have the opportunity to look at anyone else as they huff and puff, which means no one’s looking at me either!
Needless to say, it’s awesome and I highly recommend giving it shot. After one month, I definitely feel stronger and I swear I actually have a butt now! There’s something about having muscles that always makes me feel fabulous. Given these results, I’ve committed to another six months. Here’s to consistency!
